Soup of the Day: Emperors- Be Ready When I Say Go

I never thought it was possible to discover a new band, and upon first listen, have an immediate feeling of nostalgia. Perth based Emperors first track featured on the main site has done just that. “Be Ready When I say Go” is a noise-pop tracked laced with an alternative 90’s feel, the one we all we miss about music. Almost instantly this track had me bobbing my head, and smiling with guiltless 90’s love.

Emperors has the ability to write songs that may have a specific meaning to the artist, but can easily appeal to a mass audience. If you are a fan of well-written songs, and miss the brilliance that is 90’s rock music, you will fall in love with Emperors. Their newest Release Stay Frosty is out now on iTunes.

Golden Sun- Golden Sun EP (Free Download)

bandsoup:

Golden Sun is a fairly new four piece band out of Salt Lake City, Utah that blends fuzzy, throwback alternative rock with touches of modern indie rock influences. Earlier this year, the band released their self-titled EP, a DIY effort that was written, recorded, and produced in-house, but you could never tell.

The EP is a solid and accessible introduction to the unsung band. The first three tracks— Bonneville, Electric Ghost, and Wind River— sum the band up perfectly. Bonneville shows their dreamy, accessible side with its twinkling guitars and pop-like arrangement; Electric Ghost drives up the energy and 90s nostalgia with its distorted vocals, driving drums and fuzzed out guitar and bass combo; and Wind River combines elements of both the aforementioned tracks to form Golden Sun’s overall ethos of past meets future.

This is yet another young, diamond in the rough band with endless potential. Start stacking up your Summer’s soundtrack now with a free (or name-your-own-price) download of the EP below.

Soup of the Day: The Features- I Will Wander

Listen to more from The Features on BandSoup

With their major label debut looming (Wilderness, Serpents and Snakes/BMG, June 5th), Nashville rockers The Features have compiled an awesome collection of b-sides, outtakes, demos, and alternative versions called Still Lost, Vol. 1. Throughout the collection, The Features will make you fall in love with their no frills, upbeat sound that mixes a variety of influences from numerous eras and genres.

The song we are featuring in this post, I Will Wander, is hard not to like. With its infectious beat, saucy strings, and pop-rock chants, The Features provide a Franz Ferdinand-like pulse, but with more pop-power. This is definitely one band to keep your ear on.

You can download Still Lost, Vol. 1 free of charge by providing your e-mail address.

Soup of the Day: Sleepy Sun- Creature

Sleepy Sun’s miles, months, and days in the van are a tangible presence in Spine Hits, an LP of whimsy, restlessness, and urgency that leaps nimbly from landscape to landscape with ease, irreverence, and a catch-em-before-they-ain’t changeling nature. For the most part, the sprawling Zeppelin-esque epics that defined much of Embrace and Fever have been traded in for a potent pop-compact framework. But never at the expense of the dodging, juking, and downshifting instincts that set their older long form pieces apart from a thousand other psychedelic drone warriors.
